While in St. Pete, Florida last week, an Orlando student taking the Success in Seniors Real Estate course, Cathy Paulsen, commented, “thank you for reigniting my excitement for real estate again.”
This sentiment has been shared in a variety of ways by numerous agents across the country as they begin to realize the impact of focusing their businesses in the seniors real estate niche. Cathy, like so many other Realtors, has reached a place in her life and career where “the business” is more about making a positive difference than it is about money.
Not to imply that money isn’t important, of course. The fact is that most people work to earn an income which furthers their ability to live life to the fullest. And the reality is that when your work is rewarding, earning a nice income is simply icing on the cake.
Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Anyone who jumps out of bed and goes to work loving what they do every day would agree. Life is just better when your career goals are aligned with your passions and values.

We have noticed that many of our students choosing to specialize in working with seniors have similar stories to share. Just like Cathy, they have parents who are aging and they are either serving as primary caregiver or are somehow intricately involved in their parents decisions about where to live.
The role of helping an elder adult with their decisions about retirement living can be equally challenging for caregivers as they are for the seniors themselves. Navigating the maze of senior housing options, arranging for services to age in place, and making tough financial decisions can be both emotionally and physically draining.
Agents who have personally experienced this process have amazing amounts of empathy for those who are going through it.
