Were you aware that 17% of new HIV diagnoses occur in those over the age of 50? You know what's even crazier? Thirty-one percent of ALL people with an HIV diagnosis are more than a half-century old.
When I first saw these statistics I was shocked and immediately realized that it was worthwhile information to share with you. But I wondered if you might think it strange or off-subject for me to blog about this on a real estate-oriented website. Then I realized it was not and here's why:
As a real estate professional or housing representative specializing in the senior sector, one of your most powerful tools in relating with and getting to know boomers and seniors is located in your online arsenal.
By blogging about and providing information about many of their main interests – typically finances, retirement, health, grandchildren and relationships – you'll show yourself to be someone who cares about and understands what's going on in their world.
That's why I offer this subject as an example of topics that you may wish to share and discuss with your fans and readers. It includes two areas of utmost interest to those over 50: health and relationships. Heck, let's go a step further and call it what it is; romance and sex, two areas that many like to discount when writing about boomers and seniors.
But such is not truly the case and although you may believe that areas like this are too “deep” for you to blog about, I'd like to challenge you to keep all options open when choosing your blogging subjects and the articles that you post on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere. If it impacts the lives of seniors and boomers, you should be writing about it and relating to your current and potential clients.
Show 'em that you're real and that you care.
In my next blog, I'll put together a sample template that will give you an idea of how you can approach the subject of Senior and Boomer HIV on your own blog and develop an informative piece specific to your community.
